Matikuri Lodge
Hotel Address: Matikuri Island, Marovo Lagoon
From Honiara, visitors to Marovo Lagoon travel by light plane (50-70 minute flight) to Seghe on the south east tip of New Georgia. Visitors should be prepared for the fact that Seghe is a small airstrip with only a few private houses on the edge. The strip has recently been upgraded to take Dash 8 flights commencing 5th Jan 09 which will take only 45 mins from Honiara.
On arrival at Seghe, visitors will be transported approximately 6 km across the lagoon in an open 22 foot outboard engine powered canoe - standard transport in the area. Its best to be prepared for the chance of getting a little wet from spray on the way to the island!
By Boat: Fast boats depart Honiara 0700 twice a week ( weather dependant) and drop passengers at Seghe . Slower local passenger boats leave Honiara Sunday morning and arrive in the Lagoon at Seghe wharf for disembarkation approx 11pm the same night. Matikuri staff come to meet the ship and take guests directly to the Lodge.
