Getting there
From Honiara, visitors to the SE Marovo Lagoon travel by light plane (70 minute flight) to Sombiro on the north east tip of Gatokae Island. Visitors should be prepared for the fact that Sombiro is a small remote airstrip.
On arrival at Sombiro, visitors will be transported approximately 7 km south around Gatokae Island in a sun shade covered 22 foot outboard engine powered canoe - standard transport in the area. Be prepared for the chance of getting a little wet from spray on the way to the island!
By Boat: Fast boats depart Honiara 0630 on Sundays ( weather dependant) and drop passengers at Mbunikalo Wharf. Slower local passenger boats leave Honiara Sunday morning and arrive at Mbunikalo (which is the first stop in the lagoon) 9pm the same night.
