Solomon Islands Accommodation
Savo Sunset Lodge
Location & Map
Getting there
The most scenic route by far is to travel by 4 x 4 vehicle to Vila village on West Guadalcanal and then go by boat directly across to Savo Island. The Lodge will arrange pick up from your hotel. The road starts off as sealed and then becomes gravel as it travels west along the Guadalcanal coast through villages, open grazing paddocks and grassy hills. The trip takes over 1 hour following last wet season, as rivers washed away most of the bridges and causeways, leaving vehicles the slow option of winding around temporary causeway tracks. At Vila Village, you transfer to a small boat for the final 20 minutes. This trip can be wet if its windy or raining. A rain jacket is advised.
