National Independence Day is the most important event for the people of the Solomon Islands. This marks the day when the Solomon Islands became independent from the British Government. It is a day of celebrations based on sports and family gatherings.
Honiara usually marks the day with a parade by the Solomon Island police band. Festivities continue throughout the day and include youth dramas, traditional dance performances and more.
