Serenity.... A moving experience encompassing a romantic leaf bungalow built over the water, breathtaking sunsets, authentic village life and customs and the unique craft of manufacturing shell money still used in daily life for ceremonies. Whilst the lagoon doesn't offer beaches and places to lie in the sun, it does provide visitors with a close up view of the various artificial islands set among the natural islands and mangroves.
This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Cultural and income generating to keep the youth of the village at home.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
When Serah was a little girl, cruise ships frequently visited the area and brought income to the villages in the lagoon. Due to a number of events, that has diminished now, so Sarah wanted to create a project that would keep both youth and elders involved and encourage the villagers to keep their culture alive by participating in demonstrations of their ceremonies for her guests.
Today her husband Gustaff helps her to pursue her dream.
