From Gizo market area, small open boats ( 22-24' fibreglass) travel to Kara village daily. Its handy to have a spray jacket in case of rain or wind. Sun protection is also necessary as there is no shade on the boat. The trip follows the coast of south Ghizo Island and then crosses the deep water passage to south-east Ranongga taking about 1-1.5 hours. Transfer costs by Takapuna are SBD1,000 return which includes fuel and boat hire. Life jackets, water etc onboard. The landing at the village is wet as there are no wharves along the coastline. Depending on the seas, Kongu Bay is 7 minutes walk and the Kara land point is 3 minutes from the rest house.
