Outback Living is Gizo's most recent addition to accommodation options for the backpacker market. Whilst the rooms are basic, the charm is in the owner, Moffat who is a world of knowledge about local history.
The communal kitchen at the entrance of the property has a 2 burner gas stove and guests are welcome to use the pots, and eating utensils. There is no refrigerator at this time, but will be installed in the near future. A local custom kitchen is also available including a drum oven. Ideal for those willing to try out alternative cooking styles!
The gardens at the rear of the property are bordered with flower gardens, banion trees, fruit trees and vegetable gardens newly established. Bird lovers will be able to sight varities of parrots including Eclectas Parrots, Crimson Lorokeet, Solomon Cockatoo, as well as Gizo White Eyes, Sunbirds, and various birds of prey.
Moffet has a 1 hour tour on offer where he explains the importance of subsistence life, demonstrating different local foods growing oin their gardens, motu stone oven cooking, and life in the bush. He also has a reconstruction of a custom site from Simbo which was cared for by his Great Grandfather prior to the introduction of religion to the region.
