The Hilltop Guest House is a fully renovated accommodation situated in a quiet residential area on the hillside of Auki town in Malaita Province. The family friendly environment makes it suitable for both long term and short term visitors with the convenience of self cater or restaurant services on site.
Masoud and Judy are an Australian couple who moved to Malaita 18 months ago starting up a training centre for youth interested in hospitality.
This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
The Guest House is a registered training center for young local people in hospitality.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
The philosophy of the Hilltop Guest House and Training Centre - We are actually registered as a NGO, Training Institute. Our income from our accommodation is put back in to community development and training. Currently we are sponsoring 10 youth in delivering Certificate II in Hospitality and Community Development. The Hilltop Training Institute is paying for all the training costs associated with training. So whoever stays at The Hilltop, they are actually indirectly contributing to the training of the youth in Malaita.
As part of the hospitality training, participants learn about conservation, and practice recycling activities.
